Hello,

I just bought and installed the Ranking tool box after being impressed with Hello engines. I was disappointed at the number of preloaded search engines for the UK only finding LYcos UK. I also can not find instructions on how to easily add the UK engines.

How can I add the following engines? Please HELP.

google.co.uk
yahoo uk

thank you
Aron :?

You can use the database editor to add as many new search engines as you like. In case the help file is not adequate, please let us know if you have specific questions on that issue.

I have just purchased Ranking Toolbox and I need to add the Google search engine for Canada and many other search engines for Canada. The help file that came with the program doesn't help at all with this situation. The first line steps says there is a "New" button to click when adding a search engine.

As far as I can tell I need to add a new search service but since I don't seem to understand how that is done and what fields are actually needed to accomplish this I am at a loss.

Can you please provide me with the steps necessary to create the Google Search Engine for Canada so I have an idea as to how to do it for the rest fo the Canadian Search engines?

Thank you very much.

Here is a short instruction how to create a database with own engines:

1.) Open the database editor from windows start menu.

2.) Click on the Button (...) and select the folder where you like to create the new database.

3.) Click on "Add"

4.) Click on "Create DB"

5.) Click on "OK"

6.) Now add a new entry and fill in the name for the engine.

7.) Click on the tab Ranking

8.) Fill in all the necessary datas. In the help file is shown what to enter here.

Now you can leave the database editor and select your own database in the options of Ranking Toolbox.

I am on the General tab and it requires that I submit a Type value:

What is TYPE? What does S, V, A mean?
What role does IMPORTANCE, SUBMIT COST, and LAST CHECK CRC play?
When should I click on ENCODE URL?

Also what does all the other tabs in the Database Manager do?

Assuming I have created the Search Service correctly and the Google Canada creation worked how can I use the search engine? I don't see it in the Search engine window?

I have tried to VERIFTY ENGINES CRC but it doesn't do anything.

I also tried exporting but no matter what folder I enter I get "Invalid folder name"

The database editor is used for Hello Engines! AND Ranking Toolbox. For adding a engine to Ranking Toolbox you don't need to fill out all Tabs and fields.

Stryker wrote:

This is the type of the search engines.

S = Search engine (Suchmaschine)

V = Directory (Verzeichnis)

A = Others (Andere)

Stryker wrote:

Importance is a rating you can set. Just select how important the engine is for you. This rating is only shown in Hello Engines!

Under submit cost you can enter how much is the submission fee of this engine. You need this only for Hello Engines!.

The field LAST CHECK CRC shows the last checksum of this engine. This field is filled out automatically after runnning a CRC check of the engines included in your database.

Stryker wrote:

You only need this in Hello Engines!. But no engine in our database requires this setting.

Stryker wrote:

The other Tabs are there to add engine into Hello Engines!. Both applications are using the same database.

Stryker wrote:

In the options of Ranking Toolbox you can select the database you like to use. Just click on Options -> Options and select the SearchEngine.cds file of your created database.

Stryker wrote:

This funtions is checking if there are any changes on the submission pages of the search engines. This option can only be used for the engines for Hello Engines!.

Stryker wrote:

This option is there to convert the Hello Engines! database. Older version use another database than the new versions.

Hello,

I have tried to add these two engines without success.

Here are the configurations I think they should be. I used Google as a model since I couldn't find all of the items specified in the Yahoo configuration in the source file of a search results.

Yahoo Canada
Start Page: http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search/ca?vc ... SEARCHTERM
Next Page: http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search/ca?vc ... b=$PERPAGE
Title Starts: <li><a class=rt href=
Match Begins: WEB RESULTS
Match Engs: <b>RESULTS:
URL: http://ca.search.yahoo.com

AltaVista Canada
Start Page: http://ca.altavista.com/web/results?q=$ ... &avkw=aapt
Next Page: http://ca.altavista.com/web/results?q=$ ... q=$PERPAGE
Title Starts: <a class="res" onclick="Co('
Match Begins: <a href="/r?tysMAIN" class=lbl>AltaVista
Match Engs: Extend Your Search</a>
URL: http://ca.altavista.com/

Hello,

have you received my database yet?

I would like to know what is the progress on the issue. Also do you have any idea as to why your product can't search the Yahoo! (US) search engine results?

Thanks,

Rich

I have sent three emails to support@acebit.com.

I have posted here as many times as you can see.

I have even called you guys from Canada yesterday trying to get a resolution to this problem and your secretary said you folks were not working or something yesterday.

Please tell me tomorrow whether or not you can help. If not please refund me my money. I have waited at least a week for a resolution and I have a licensed copy of the software!

Also I need to know if the URL that I enter i.e. http://www.medbroadcast.com and the search engine results have something like http://www.medbroadcast.com/channel_mai ... el_id=1033 will your product pick it up and consider it a count because it doesn't seem to be doing that right now.

Today we check your database you've sent to us. We will add the engines you tried to add in your own database for all users into the original database of Ranking Toolbox.

In the current version Ranking Toolbox checks only the URLs you defined in the URL-List.

To add all of your documents (or all of you dynamic URLs) scan your site.

Note the following:
Your website is very large, so you need to increase the number of Max. Pages and the Scan Depth in the Site-Scanner.

After scanning your site you can add all found URLs to the URL-List. Now Ranking Toolbox also check for your document. With the next update it will be possible to enter dynamic URLs manually, if you only want to check for specific URLs.

I tried that.

The problem is that when I want to save all those scan links I can't upload them into the Ranking Toolkit. When you use OPEN to open a file that has all the links you scanned days earlier or use the CLIPBOARD button Ranking Toolkit doesn't upload any of the dynamic links.

This makes the whole procedure cumbersome and tedious because I have scan each and every one of my websites each and every time I want to do ranking.

I spent at least 2 hours trying to get those 9999 links now I have to do it each and every time I want to find my ranking...not acceptable!

Also in regards to the database...why did it take so long?
Do the search engines I inputed now work?
Why is Yahoo! US and CAN not working?
How did you make my search engines work?
There are more Canadian Search engines I need to input besides those three I submitted. I just stopped at those three because two of them were not working.
When will this update come about?
I have been waiting for a long time now and subsequently I have asked Element5 to refund my money.

Unless you can solve this problem by Friday February 13th 2004. That will be 21 days since my first posting.

From where I am standing this problem is escalating because:

1. you refuse to respond to emails and phone calls. If you are having problems or delays in receiving my emails let me know and I will see what I can do to improve the situation.
2. you do not respond to my postings on this bulletin board in a timely fashion. If there is a translationn problem let me know and I will see what I can do. I think... someone here can read/speak German.
3. your product is unable to meet my requirements.
4. you refuse to refund my money.
5. i have clients that require this product to have been working 2 weeks ago and now I am way past my deadline.

I have said before that I like the way your product works but this lack of support from you is just not acceptable. Probably once all the search engines I need have been inputted I won't need support but that could be any time in the future.

Your product works very well for static websites but it doesn't seem to work for my clients' dynamic websites.

Thank you,

Rich

Currently we're working on the next update of Ranking Toolbox.

We will check if the problems still occur in the beta of this update and we will release it as soon as possible.

Yahoo and Altavista are a little bit complicated to add to the database.
We go on with our tries to add them.

The problem is that Ranking Toolbox needs repeating parts in the source codes and results page URLs.

Anything seems to be not periodic in Altavista and Yahoo.

By the way: Yahoo gets it's results from Google, the results seems to be the same.

Normally we response to email and postings in the forum after max. 24 hours. We give our best to do this always and promise to be faster in future in answering your requests.

Take a look into you Inbox, we've sent an E-Mail.

When i did a scan of the website and retrieved 9999 links 9800 were dynamic the rest referenced images.

i wanted to save these links which happened but I could not upload them into the program after clearing/deleted them from the screen.

To prevent that images are scanned, too deactivate the option IMG in the settings of the site-scanner.

To add the found links to the URL List click into the List of URLs, pres CTRL+A and click onto the "Add" Button.

Now all Links are shown in the URL-List.

Does this work?

We have currrently a conflict between two bugfixes regarding dynamic URLs.

We are working on a solution for it. As this is a little bit complicated I'm not shure when we will be able to provide a bugfix.

Meanwhile do as follows:

Scan you site and add all found pages to the URL list.

Now save your project twice.

If you want to create a new project open one of the copies.

Enter your datas and save the project under a different name.

So you don't need to rescan your site everytime you create a new project.

Another Bugfix will be available these days. You can download it if it is not available via the update-manager.
