I am on AOL Broadband and have tried using Wise ftp but whilst I can get on to to my site OK I am unable to upload files.
I get error 550 - Only incoming files are guest writable
I am using the following input in Wise:

Profile name - My webssite name
Host Name - members.aol.com
Port ftp
UserName - Anonymous
Password - My email address

Anyone help? - AOL just agree settings should work!

I can get access to another site I look after which is on freeserve though the settings differ

Hello,

you are connecting in anonymous mode. This is not a problem of Wise itself, but of the settings of the FTP server. If you connect anonymous, the server is configured to grant only write access to incoming files.

Do you have an username & password to access your server with write rights on all files?

We suggest you contact your provider AOL for login informations with full rights.

If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Understand that there is no falt in the Wise program - I get access no problem to another website via freeserve.

Just hoped that someone there might know how to get the program working with AOL. Contacting AOL one just has to be lucky that one gets someone knowledgeable - not often!

I have tried access with my screenname and various other ways but only get in using Anonymous which , as you say only allows downloads.

Posting this in the hope that someone has been successful and has the answer

Hello,

we just found this information on how to login on your AOL FTP server.

Quote:
You should be able to use any TCP/IP FTP client you want. The keys are:

(a) Set up ftp using the client-dependent instructions given below.
(b) You must be logged into AOL at the same time.
(c) You should login anonymously to members.aol.com with "@aol.com" in your password, i.e.,
- login as "ftp" or "anonymous"
- password "yourscreenname@aol.com"

Note: If you fail to include your full email address (yourscreenname@aol.com) then you will not be granted write access to your FTPSpace.

That's it. The server will identify the connect as originating from an AOL user and give full access to the appropriate ("/yourscreenname") file hierarchy.

Please note that we are not able to verify this information, as we do not use AOL here. But perhaps it helps to solve your problem.

THanks for the effort Jullian but unfortunately it does not work

I was given the same info from one of the more informed helpers on AOL but it only allows entry to the site and you get the following when you try to upload:
550 - only " incoming files" are guest writable

My entries are exctly as you suggested - including @aol

If you find out anything further I would appreciate it
Bill
