Hi , my Wise-ftp use to work perfectly for me all until yesterday when I discovered tha I coudn't connect. My hosting is with 1&1.

The error message is

Unable to connect to the-best-deal.com! (500 Esocketexception: connect:

No configurations on the host that I know of were made and definately no firewall.

Hello,

Does this error occur only for "the-best-deal.com" or for other ftp-servers too?

Best regards,
Serghei

Hello,

It looks like a system wide error related with network protocols configuration on your machine. Please open on your machine the folder <WINDOWSDIR>\system32\drivers\etc\ and look for files "protocol" and "services". If these files exist check the following:

1) File "protocol" must contain the string:
tcp 6 TCP # Transmission control protocol

2) File "services" must contain strings:
ftp-data 20/tcp #FTP, data
ftp 21/tcp #FTP. control

Otherwise, you may send these two files to support@acebit.com so that we could test them. Currently we cannot reproduce this error.

Best regards,
Serghei

i had this error too. In my case it was a virus infection of the files 'services' and 'protocol' . my virus-checker (f-prot) deleted them

I checked and the two files are still there. I also checked on the strings mentioned above and it matched...

Don't know what the problem is.

Edit:

The files have been sent. I hope you guys can tell me if the files are what's causing the problem.

Don't know about the viruses but my files are still there. Kinda weird how it just stopped working all of a sudden for me.

Hello,

Thank you for the files you sent us. Your files are OK except one thing - they both have extensions .DAT while by default these files should NOT have an extension. That is, normally the <WINDOWSDIR>\system32\drivers\etc directory should contain files: "protocol" and "services". So if you rename "protocol.dat" to "protocol" and "services.dat" to "services" then ftp protocol on your machine would work again.

There is a question why your files "protocol" and "services" were renamed? Of course, it is possible that a third-party network security tool did this but I suppose it was done rather by a malicious application. So I would recommend you to scan your system for viruses/trojans.

Best regards,
Serghei

I also did the recomended changes, but still have the error message ...

! Verbinden mit http://www.xxxxxxxxx.de...
! Verbindung kann nicht hergestellt werden: http://www.xxxxxxxxx.de! (500 ESocketException: connect: WSocketResolveProto: Cannot convert protocol 'tcp', Error #11004)

The entries are in the two files and there are no extensions like .dot.
Virus scan passed succesfully.

Any further ideas?

THX in advance
Stefan

To mxhaui:

The error #11004 is definitely caused by a problem in system configuration. Could you please run from the command prompt:
ping ftp.<yourserver>.de ? does the server reply?

Then, if it is possible send us your "protocol" and "services" files to support@acebit.com. We will to reproduce the problem on our systems.

Best regards
