Hi I just upgraded to version 5 and I can't work out how to decompress a zip file once I have uploaded it.

Is the command hidden somewhere?

Thanks in advance
Jakec

Hello,

there is no such function in WiseFTP. In fact 99.99% of the ftp servers do not have functions for unzipping files on the server.

That's not strictly true. You can compress, download and decompress. Also you can compress and upload, but not decompress again.

If you can't decompress once uploaded I feel that your 'What's New' section is misleading as it states the following:

Quote:
Integrated compression/decompression: Save a lot of time when transferring data. You can now use WISE-FTP to directly compress and decompress the data you want to transfer. The program supports the most popular archiving formats; e.g., .zip, .z, .cab, .gz, .tar.gz, etc.

It doesn't mention you can't decompress once you have uploaded the files.

This was the main reason for upgrading to the latest version, otherwise I would have stuck with version 3. :(

I use 1and1 and their file manager in the control has a decompress function, but I don't tend to use because it is slow and buggy.

Hello,

Yes, you are right, it does not say explicitly "you can not decompress at the ftp server". We thought it would be clear to the users that this would not be possible. The program which does the compress/decompressing (WiseFTP) is running on your own pc and not on the ftp server, so it cant do compress/decompress there.
Only a highly customized FTP server can handle this, but as we already wrote 99,99% does not support this feature.

You wrote its possible to compress on the ftp, download and then decompress on your local system. Thats not possible as well. There is a "Download and decompress" option yes, but you can only select it when the file you want to download already IS a compressed archive.
