We've just found that when accessing a Windows 2003 server (running Depot server module 3.0.4) trough a Remote Desktop "console" session (mstsc.exe /console) and then logging-off, the Depot service shutdowns.

Can anyone else confirm this issue?

TIA,
Arley Silveira.

We just tried to reproduce this issue on a Windows 2003 Server, by accessing a client via Windows 2003 server, and Windows 2003 server via a client computer. In both cases the Password Depot service did not shutdown.

Did you perform any special action during your session or even a simple connect/disconnect shutdown the service?

The only special action is to use the Remote Destop with the console0 option (%SystemRoot%\system32\mstsc.exe /console). The /console switch forces the TS session to console 0.

Closing the Remote Desktop window does preservers the service, for that matter/issue you need to Log-Off from the server.

Step-by-step to simulate the problem.

1) Remote Dektop to the server using /console switch

2) Open the Depot Server control panel (you HAVE to do this step otherwise the problem may not happen)

3) Close the Depot Server control panel

4) Logg-off

5) Remote Dektop to the server using /console switch

6) Open the Depot Server control panel. At this time you may notice on the control panel that the service went down.

TIA,
Arley

Hello,

thanks a lot for your description of the problem. We are investigating this issue at the moment and will release an update as soon as we can reproduce the error here.

Can you please install this build:

http://www.acebit.com/servicefiles/pwdsrv3.exe

Does this solve your problem?

Hello,

Thank you for the answer. The problem is we cannot reproduce this issue although we tried many possible situations. We have made a few changes in this build http://www.acebit.com/servicefiles/pwdsrv3.exe so now it works as follows:
1) The NT Service (pwd_svc.exe) monitors the current state of the Password Depot Server 3 (pwd_srv.exe) every a few seconds.
2) If Password Depot Server 3 was stopped due to connected user's logoff or program crash, the service restarts the Password Depot Server 3.

This process of restarting of the server after user's logoff make take a few seconds so please wait a little before checking the state of the server after disconnect/connect a TS. Also please make sure the Password Depot NT service is running and configured to start automatically (after installation it is not started but only after system reboot).

Then, we would like to ask you to check the log file, created in
%ProgramFiles%\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 3\Logs and if possible to send the last lines concerning that TS connect/logoff to support@acebit.com . If you have any questions or additional notes regarding this issue, please contact support@acebit.com.

Best regards

The problem still persists but due to the automatic restart we can reconnect in a few seconds.

I'll try to capture a desktop movie showing the problem, 'til then, thx for your support.

Could you please download and install the latest version 3.0.5? We implemented one improvement and hope this will solve your problem.
