engine friendly

I'm testing ranking tool and found the engine friendly function, could you please explain this? Why should I be friendly to engines?

Hello,
in the Engine Friendly Mode, the number of threads cannot exceed 2 and the maximum number of matches is limited to 50 entries. The process of the query is slower in order not to harm the engines and it also makes the query more similar to human input.
This mode may also prevent blocking your IP address by some search engines after massive querying.
