Hello,

When you upload a binary file (for example, .zip or .jpg) the size on server should be the same as on your local Windows system. But when you upload a text file (.txt, .html, .php, etc) the size on Linux server is a bit smaller than the size on your local system. This is because the end of line in text files on UNIX systems is designated with 1 symbol while Windows uses 2 symbols. This conversion is handled automatically and you should not worry about this.

About date/time. FTP servers do not allow changing date/time of files on server. So when you upload a file, this file gets the current date/time.

Best regards

I ran into the different WinXP/Unix filesize problem the first time I tried to synchronize a WinXP and Linux directory. I re-synch'ed multiple times and couldn't figure out why the upload did not appear to work (as in, the filesizes were different). I then downloaded the Linux file and realised what had happened.

I would suggest adding a note to the Synchronize section of the Help file pointing out this behaviour.
Thanks, Norbert

The unfortunate behaviour of FTP makes the Synchronize feature less useful that it could be. I often do the upload using a TAR file (which retains the timestamp), but then want to detect and upload changes with FTP. I need to disable the time check in WISE-FTP for any subsequent synchronize operations, which makes it possible that a change on my local system will not be detected (if the filesize does not change).

Another synchronization tool gives the user the option of changing the timestamp on the local file to match that of the remote file. Although this is also not ideal, it would allow me to use all three synchronization checks to detect subsequent file changes.
Thanks, Norbert
