How do you change the default font for a question/answer?

The default font is always Times ... and I want it to be Verdana.
How do I change this (and the default font size):
a) on a survey-by-survey basis
b) permantly for the whole program?
The Help file says nothing on this subject.

By default you always see in the editor "Times New Roman". However, the design of your survey is mainly determined by yoru settings in Survey Settings/Survey Appearance.
We would suggest that you first create and finish your survey and then choose in Survey settings one template.
