We use Password Depot 2 with the Password Depot server module.

What is the procedure to sync the passwords to/from the server, so that every user the same info on his local PC?

If you try to open the file in th ..\network directory the initial password to open is changed???

Regards,
Gerard.

Hello,

the procedure for this depends on what you have installed and how you are using Password Depot at the moment. Are there a lot of clients that use their independent password files already? Or will everything be freshly installed, so no old password files have to be manually merged etc.? Do in future all passwords have to be shared, or will there be separate private areas for each user or for groups of users?

We are setting up from scratch. and all passwords in the file will be shared. Secondly every client has an personal file for his own passwords.

Hello,

in this case, the procedure is not very complicated. You should first create the main password file with a client. This password file then has to be moved somewhere to the server and attached to Password Depot server. In the server you will then have to configure the clients and who of your clients may read/change/... password of this file. Now your clients will be able to connect to the password depot server and the password file. You could then create additional local files for each client, or additional files on the server that then need to be set up in a way that only one client can access one of these files.

If you have detailed questions about some of the steps, don't hesitate to contact us.

Hi,

Ok thats clear and we are using that method now.

We still have one issue:
When we create a new password we do not have access to the PD2 server. This means that the client for the shared passwords uses the file located in the local network directory. From that moment we can use the shared passwords, but can not add/modify/delete an (existing) password. The procedure we use if we must modify the password is copy the existing entry to your local psw file make the change, and when we are back at the office copy that entry again to the server. The option add-delete-modify are grayed out and not accessible if you use your local copy of the server psw file.

How can we change the local server psw file?

Hello,

We are not sure if we misunderstand the problem now, but usually, when a client is connected to the server, you can use the server's GUI to grant the client the rights for adding/deleting/modifying/... passwords. A password this client adds will then automatically be added to the server.
