I upload the PHPBB2 zipped folder into a directory I named "forum" for now. I'm using SFTP. But I'd like to know how to unzip the file after I have uploaded it. That was suggested when I e-mailed PHPBB2 support.

Currently Wise-FTP does not support unpacking .z files directly on a ftp-server (we will implement this feature in the next versions). For now I would recommend you two variants:
1) Unpack all .z files from the distributive with WinZip onto your local machine and then upload all the extracted files to your ftp-server using Wise-FTP;
2) Contact a person who maintain your web-server and has access to your home directory, and ask him/her to unpack your archives directly on the server;
