sorry for sounding very naive, but just changed host providers and now use wise-ftp.
With my old providers, in the Local System I just double clicked on the link I wanted to update, then the arrow would appear aiming towards the Remote System, then I just pressed publish and my new page was up and running.

However when I try and do this now, I cannot open the page in the local system and change the text or anything - how do I update my webpages now?

Again sorry for sounding naive, but not very computer literate - so apologies!
