Newbie Needing Help - Connection Refused

Postby mobbingportal » Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:35 pm

Hi there!

As my subject line says, I am a newbie and would really appreciate any help. I'm working under a deadline for work and am having a difficult time even getting connected.

I have a domain name set up and I can see the empty site online. I retrieved my ftp username and password from my server 1and1.com and entered them into the site manager connection page. I have disabled Firewalls on my computer (I'm working with Windows Vista). When I try to connect, I get the error message "Unable to connect to mobbingportal.com (500 Connection refused (Winsock error #10061))."

I was on the line with customer support from 1and1 and they said that they were able to connect and do not know why my computer won't. I have re-typed the name and password multiple times and it does not appear to be a typo.

If anybody has any suggestions or thoughts I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you ahead of time.

Hello,

which version of Wise-FTP are you using exactly (Help -> About)?
Are you using the "Passive" mode to connect to the server? If so, please disable this mode in the FTP profile and try to connect again.

Which firewall are you using? Are you maybe using any other security software which might block Wise-FTP so that the program does not have access to the internet?

What did you enter in the field "Port" in the FTP profile?

Maybe you could post the complete ftp log which you receive when you try to connect to the server?

Best regards

Thank you for your reply.

I am working from a University campus and it turns out my problem was with the wireless connection that automatically blocked the ftp port.

I've changed the setting and it is now connecting and letting me transfer. I'm still experiencing a bit of trouble, however, and when I check my site online I get "Error 403 - Forbidden". Could have something to do with my connection again?

Hopefully I'll get it sorted out. Thank you again

I am using WISE-FTP version 3.0, 3.0.0.7.

For my security I have Norton Antivirus as well as the Windows firewall.

Hello,

Please check the following to solve the problem with the error 403:

1. You have set sufficient access rights to the files.

To change the access rights of your uploaded files, right-click on the corresponding files (on the FTP server) in WISE-FTP, and select "Properties". You can now edit the access rights in the dialog box that opens.

2. There is no file index.html or index.htm on your web server, or this file is located in a subfolder.

This file is the start page of your domain. The web server uses it when opening your domain. This file needs to be located in the root folder of your webserver.

Best regards
