I'm new to the forum and need some expert advice. I have been using PD v2.1 for over a year with no problems. I decided to update to v3, but cannot find any installation instructions. I have tried to install v3 over PD v2.1, but PD v2 stays on my computer, so I have both versions that open up just fine. If I uninstall v2, then v3 does not open with my passwords in it. Opens the open with window, but when I try to put PD in, it will not let me put it in the open with window. I have tried everything I know to do. I have completely uninstalled v2 before installing v3, then trying to get my passwords from the v2 back-up, which does not work. I have installed v3, got my passwords into it, then uninstalled v2, but then v3 will not open. When I try to open it, it says invalid file format. There is no error number, just will not open unless v2 remains on my computer. Do I have to have both versions on my computer in order for v3 to work properly? If so, then that is a rip off. I updated from v2.0 to v2.1 with no proplems. I need some step by step instructions.
I am running WinXP SP 2, IE 6.
TIA Jayne

Hello,

Password Depot 2 and 3 may coexist on the same PC with the only condition they use different directories for storing passwords and backups. That is because password files created or modified by version 3 cannot be opened in version 2, while Password Depot 3 can open password file of version 2 without problem.

If you are not going to keep Password Depot 2 on your PC for any special reason, the best solution we would suggest is:
1) Uninstall Password Depot 2. If you are prompted to reboot your PC, please reboot it.
2) Re-Install Password Depot 3.
3) Copy your old password depot 2 files from the directory
<My Documents>\Password Depot\Passwords\
to
<My Documents>\Password Depot 3\Passwords\
after that you will be able to use all your .psw files in Password Depot 3.

Hello
Thank you for the quick response. I would rather not have both v2 and v3 on my system, but I guess I don't know how to copy the old Password Depot 2 from the directory to the new v3 program directory. Please tell me how to do that. I am not a newbie, but for the life of me I cannot think how to do that. SORRY!!!!

Hello

Ok, I figured out how to copy the old password depot 2 files into password depot 3. Now for the next problem. When the back ups are made by the program, in v2 you can open Password Depot by double clicking the last back up done or any other one for that matter. Having those back ups viable is how I move them from one computer to the other. If the back ups won't open, then I can't move them and get my passwords into the program. In PD 3, I get an invalid file error and nothing will open. Why is that? I think maybe I wasted my money getting this update. I don't like it at all. I need some expert advice on how to make this new version work. I would like it if I could figure it out. I have read the manual, but I can't seem to make it work right anyway.

Hello,

You can open your backup files like this :

1.) Start up Password Depot 3.
2.) Select "File" -> "Open list".
3.) Klick "Browse" and point to the directory where your backup file is.
4.) Select the file type "Backup list" at the bottom of the open dialogue.
5.) The backup files will now be visible and you can open it.
