Hello!

I have been using Password Depot freeware for a few years and it has workd fine. In May I upgraded to the current version and used the software a few times right after update, last used May 23.

Today when I opened the software it advised the 30 day trial had run out and that I must register or purchase the professional edition. I have not seen this message before and when I run the software again the the registration notice no longer appears and it will not open my password list dated May 23 as it is greyed out. I tried to open some older back-up password lists and they are greyed out. I uninstalled, did new download-install, but still can not open my password list.

Can you help?

Hello,

when you use the Password Depot 3 in Freeware-Mode, it can only handle ONE password file which must be named PasswordDepot.psw and must be located at the standard password directory in the "my documents" folder. Please try to rename your password file like described above, thanks a lot!.

The software is trying to open this file path:

C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\My Documents\Password Depot 3\Passwords\Password Depot.psw

The file still does not open.

I have version 1.7 on another hard drive and was able to run the program and see my passwords, but all features of the program did not function. I installed version 1.7 on C:/ drive, program runs but does not open my old password file.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

the old password file you are talking of, have you ever opened it with the new version 3 of Password Depot? The structure of the password file has changed in version 3, so that files that were edited with Password Depot 3 once, can not be opened with older versions any more.
Is it possible, that you have more than 20 passwords in the current password file? In freeware mode you can only handle files with max. 20 passwords.

I was able to open the old password file with version 3 after I first updated back in May. I did not use the program again until July when I received the notice that 30 day had expired. I have 15 passwords in the file.

As of today I can not open any of the files even with version 1.7.

Thanks!

Hello,

So at the moment, what happens exactly when you start Password Depot 3. Are you getting any error messages?
As we said before, files created or edited with PD 3, cant be opened with older versions any more.

Password Depot 3 appears to open normally. When I click File, Open List, a file dated May 23 is listed in the Password File List. But the file is greyed out and the Browse button is also greyed out. I am unable to select the list and it is the only one.

Hello,

Yes, you can not open any other file than the file:

C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\My Documents\Password Depot 3\Passwords\Password Depot.psw

When you open the "File" -> "Open List" menu, this path should be at the text field left to the "Browse" button, can you confirm that? If the Password Depot finds the Password Depot.psw file at the mentioned path, the "OK" button is available, otherwise its greyed out. Is the OK button available to you?
The Password Depot.psw file can not contain more than 20 passwords, so when you took an old password file from your Password Depot 1or2 (which contains more than 20 passwords), renamed that file and put it at the mentioned path, Password Depot 3 wont open it.

This file is found by PD3:

C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\My Documents\Password Depot 3\Passwords\Password Depot.psw

The file is located to the left of the Browse button.

The Browse and OK buttons are greyed out.

Hello,

the path is there by default, but if the OK button is greyed out, Password Depot cant find the correct file at this path. Please have a look at the directory and make sure there IS a file called Password Depot.psw . If not, take an other valid password file, rename it and put it there.
