I have PD 3.1.7 installed on my laptop and 3.1.2 installed on my main machine. I use a password file on an external hard drive which moves from the laptop to the main machine whenever I change. I noticed some odd passwords when i moved back from my laptop to my main machine yesterday after installing the newest version on my laptop. I checked and all of my banking passwords had been changed!!!! Very odd as it is only my banking passwords that this has affected. I had to get new passwords from the banks!! and then wait until I receive a verification code by mail!!!

I did not post this right away as I was sure there must be a problem somewhere else. It is so strange that it is only my banking passwords that have been changed (I have hundreds of passwords in this file, none of the other have been changed) that I thought maybe someone was accessing my machine somehow and messing around with them but after having a paranoid fit and checking thoroughly I know that is not the case.

Anyway, I started up my laptop this morning and new banking passwords were fine. I then moved to my main machine taking my external hard drive with me and the password file. When I started up the computer all my banking passwords were once again changed!!!

Just to update this thread, I moved back to my laptop and all the passwords reappeared!!! I have since installed PD 3.1.7 on my main machine and all passwords are back to normal. Scary!

Please note that it is required that you update your program on all computers to the latest version.

We introduced in a minor version an additional password protection of your data, and this is why you will not be able to read the password fields of a file saved in version 3.1.7 with an older version, e.g. 3.1.2

OK, Thanks for the help, but I am wondering why it was only my bank account passwords that got messed up? None of the hundreds of other passwords were affected. There is nothing special about my bank account passwords.

Password Depot 3.1.4 and above additionally encrypts the password fields, therefore these fields are also protected in RAM. However, version 3.1.3 or lower is not able to read these protected fields.

I assume that in your case you added your bank account passwords with version 3.1.4 or higher, while you added all the other passwords with version 3.1.3 or lower.

The only thing you need to do is to make sure you use on all computers, USB sticks and so on the latest version of Password Depot and save your password files at least one time with that latest version.
