Hi,

I am a website designer.

The address for the website I am working on is:
http://www.topsitters.co.uk/

I am using the Site Checker and I keep getting Poor Keyword and Description ratings.

What I want to know is how to achieve a high percentage rating for the keywords and description.

What does the program base its calculations on?

What realworld difference will these ratings make to my website?

Kind Regards
Daryl

Hello,

Your rating is ok - only little things to do here.
The Site checker is giving you a short description of what is wrong:

Description :

You must shorten your description! You have entered 621 characters. This is far too much! We recommend to enter max.255 characters.
Description contains no invalid capitalization.
Check whether your text contains invalid repetitions of terms. 27 identical terms have been found.

Keywords :

You have only entered 63 characters. This is not sufficient! We recommend to enter up to 255 characters.
The keywords contain no invalid capitalization.
Check whether your text contains invalid repetitions of terms. 1 identical terms have been found.

Please notice, that you dont need to get to 100% , your results are quite good already.

It took me a lot of time to get it to that stage without understanding why?

I kept getting error and really low %.

It took me hours to get to the result I have now and I still do not know why my current combination works and the pervious ones does not.

Do you have a guide or a set of rules that the program runs by???

-------------------
From you reply I can see that:

No capitilization is good
the length of the description and lenght of keyword tags matter
Is repetition good?or bad?
What else??

It seems to not like it if you try and have keywords with more than one word it it. Is this correct?
-------------------

If you could tell me what criteria the program uses to make its calculation and return the % results, perhaps I could understand how to use it properly.

Thanks
Daryl

Hello,

the rules which Hello Engines uses are based on the average of rules which the important search engines use. These % values are approximate values only, so there is no need to reach 100%.

Keywords with more then one word in it should be no problem.

The main points regarding metatags / description are:
- Length ( too many or too few are handled bad by many search engines, for example "meta spam")
- Positioning (the important keywords should be placed first in your keyword list)
- Repetition is not needed, but you can vary about an keyword ( for example "car, buy car, cars, ..." )
- It is also strongly recommend to use the important keywords in your site as text / content, too. This must not be done with all keywords, but the most important keywords should be placed on the site in your text / content.
