Unable to run the trial version
I install the latest versions trial download normally using all default choices. However when I try to launch the program I get a Protection Error window with the following in it:
"Error: 196"
I attached a shot of the error window. That's all it says. Any idea what this error is?

Hello,
it is possible that this is a problem with DEP (Data Execution Prevention).
Have you enabled the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) on your computer? Maybe it will help to disable DEP for Password Depot here:
1. Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
2. Click Advanced System Settings. Administrator permission required. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Under Performance, click Settings.
4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
5. Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for, and then click OK.
If the program is not in the list (we assume its not), click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find the executable file for the program, and then click Open.
Do you have any other programs running in the background?

Sadly that did not work. I was however able to find an older version of Password Depot (3.1.6.0) that works just fine. However, whenever I upgrade to 3.2.2.0 I get the protection error. I am ok with using 3.1.6.0, but I thought I might bring the issue to your attention as a possible bug.

I have the same problem : "Protection Error 196" window
De-activation of DEP doesn't help

I recieved this message (error 196) after the first install of 'pdepot3.exe'
