Website Optimization: Page Content
Create small but specialized pages!
Create individual webpages focusing on a specific topic rather
than squeezing everything into one document! This gives more weight
to the individual topics when your website is assessed by a search
engine for a result page.
Important pages should also be separately submitted to spider engines
(but not to directories!), as certain spider engines only consider
a limited number of levels for indexing. It can thus happen that
a page that is several levels down in the structure of your website
is not automatically indexed.
First things first!
The search engines check whether the keywords are found in the
top section of the website, i.e. in the heading or the first text
block. This is done on the assumption that relevant websites will
contain the key terms in the first few lines.
Frequency of a term is another important criteria by which a page
is ranked by a spider engine. Search engines thereby evaluate the
number of keywords in relation to other words in a webpage. Webpages
where keywords are frequent are considered more relevant than others.
Therefore, ensure that your strategic keywords are positioned at
locations that are relevant. The most important section is thereby
the title of the page. One of the main reasons why so highly important
websites are virtually ignored by spider engines lies in the fact
that the titles of these pages do not contain strategic keywords.
Spider engines prefer pages where keywords are located at the very
top of the page. Therefore, place your strategic keywords in the
title of your pages. They should then be repeated within the first
few paragraphs of your website. Please remember that tables might
push your keywords down on the page, so that they lose relevance
in the "eyes" of the spider engine. This is due to the
fact that spider engines separate tablesduring reading. This problem
is difficult to overcome, and the only solution are metatags, that
are though only relevant in connection with spider engines that
actually use them. To improve things otherwise, you should pay attention
to the effect that tables can have on your page. However, it is
not advisable to stop using tables, as they have distinct merits.
Please note that large blocks of JavaScript have the same effect
as tables, as spider engines tend to read this information first.
Therefore, standard HTML text is pushed down on the page. If possible,
position your script close to the bottom of your page. If necessary,
try to improve your ranking by means of metatags.
