[Password Depot 9] Numerous access violation from start to program unlocked

I have just upgraded from PD8 to PD9 today. After launching PD9 the first time, it gives me the 1st access violation error (Error1.jpg).

After clicking OK, the program can be found in system tray in locked mode. Right click and select "Unlock", the password file will be downloaded from Dropbox. After it's done, then the 2nd access violation error appears (Error2.jpg).

Similarly, clicking OK can make the password input screen appears. Input everything and click OK, the 3rd access violation error appears (Error3.jpg).

After getting 3 access violation errors, I still can use the program, but it is extremely annoying. Can PD support please help?

FYI, I'm using Windows 10 x64 Home Edition.

The program was fallback to version 8 after I posted this problem, and recently I tried to upgrade to the latest version 9. However problem still exists, more than that, there is no reply from Acebit at all.

It seems that most of the posts in English forums have no replies, are English users abandoned by Acebit?

Let me provide more information, I do really hope that Acebit can take a look on this problem.

After installing the latest PD9, the first error message I see is now "Access violation at address 01086504 in module 'PasswordDepot.exe'. Read of address 00000000". The address value is different from my initial post, however it's generally the same problem.

I have tried the following 2 ways to narrow down the problem, however the problem still exists whenever the program is launched,

Approach 1 : Uninstall PD9, rename all "Password Depot" folders in my document, Google Drive, Dropbox, and even C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\AceBIT to "Password Depot.bak". Reboot, then perform PD9 clean installation again. Same error occurs after starting up.

Approach 2 : Boot up in safe mode, start up PD9. Same error occurs.


After bypassing all the errors and going into the main interface, I notice that all the icons such as folder icons, password key icons all disappear. I am wondering if the error relates to the icon access in the PasswordDepot.exe.

Unfortunately, we can not reproduce this problem. We assume that it is connected with a third party tool on your computer (e.g.,. anti virus tool, or other security software). Have you tried to disable these tools and see it the error disappears?

Then, which language are you using on your Windows computer? Do you also use a language pack?

I have tried to do the following but errors still exist,

1) Disable the Kaspersky Internet Security
2) Boot up in safe mode

My system locale is Chinese (Traditiona, Hong Kong SAR). I'm not using any language pack (can't find one in Control Panel > Programs and Features). By the way, my system locale can change from time to time, e.g. Japanese.

Does this error still appear on your side after updating to build 9.1.8?

Thank you very much for releasing the latest version. I have just installed it, and found that most of the errors are gone. Icons can display properly too.

However, there's still one error remaining, which appears during unlocking PD9 after PC reboots. The error message is "Unable to download remote file!". Please refer to the attachment "latest_error.jpg".

I've reported similar problems with different major versions of Password Depot and i'm disappointed, that you haven't been able to fix it. Right now i'm using Password Depot 10.0.3 on Windows 8.1/Windows 10 with my Password file located on Dropbox.

"Warning. Unable to download remote file!
Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 00AC9009 in Modul 'PasswordDepot.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000008.
[OK]"

I am having this same issue. I submitted a ticket but this is bad because I can no longer open any of my password files.

I still got the same issue after upgrading from PD9 to PD10 recently. Similarly it only occurs during the first time startup, that's kinda inconvenient, not a critical issue to me though.

It's still better to get it fixed, thanks.

@atlasweb, yes one error still remained in build 9.x before I upgraded to build 10.x
