Sftp now (link)? happy new year :D

Post by tempm » January 3rd, 2009, 11:30 pm

While I'm at it already: thanks for providing this excellent product!

Now my question:
While looking up sftp support for acebackup i found this url:

http://www.lifehacker.com.au/tips/2008/ ... kup-2.html

The posts in this forum contradict.

What is the current state?
In addition: i tried entering "sftp" in the "port"-field and it didn't complain - does ist use sftp now?

Thanks and a happy new year to all!

Hello,

AceBackup only supports only normal FTP. Secure FTP is not so important for AceBackup as it can encrypt the backups with very strong algorithms, so that your data will be protected not only during the transfer but also on the FTP servers.

Hi - love AceBackup over all the other free utilities out there, thanks!

Just want to add my vote for secure ftp support. That would be fantastic!

Do you know, is there a way to enable it with wininet so it works without requiring support for it in AceBackup?

Hello,

No, unfortunately WinInet supports only the old good FTP protocol. Enabling SFTP would require additional 3rd party libraries.

Best regards
