Problems with V5

Post by alexlnagy » November 24th, 2010, 2:21 pm

We recently upgraded from V3 to V5, both on the server and client platform. However, I am experiencing some issues. One is, the "import" feature never seems to be available on the client. I can export, but the "import" is grayed out. Secondly, V5 appears to have problems reading my V3 password files. I can open one successfully, but the moment I attempt to open a different one, it seems to hang and the logs mention "operation aborted". I then restart the services and voila! I can open the second password file. But then it happens again when I try to open different one. I have moved Password Depot to a different server - same problem. It does not happen with newly created V5 password files.

Thank you again for helping us to reproduce this issue.

We created an FAQ entry which describes a workaround, so that users who have a similiar problem can solve it until version 5.0.2 is released, which will fix the problem.

You can find it here: Password Depot Server crashes; when loading a file from the client, the OK button is greyed out!

I have password depot 5.2.6 installed(upgraded it from version 4).
I had the same problem.
I followed your knowledge base article but I had the following problem:
1. I opened the old password file and exported it in .xml format.
2. I created a new file in password depot 5
3. I tried to import the .xml file in the newly created file, but I get:
Import result:
Processed entries: 0
and it does not import any record.

There is an other way to solve this problem:

- Terminate the Server module
- Start on your computer, where you run the server Password Depot Client
- Load your psw files in Password Depot 5, make a change and then save

Important: Make a change in the psw file, it is not enough to use "Save as"

Note 1: By default the files are stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 5\Passwords

Note 2: You need to use the admin password as Master Password in order to open that psw files

- Now you can close the client and start the server again.

Please let us know if this solved your problem

My initial problem is solved.
Now I have a new one, which I suppose was there from the beginning but I hadn't tried it till now. Let me know if i have to create a new post for this problem.
Password Depot Server version 5.0.1
Password Depot Client version 5.2.6

1. I open my local password file in password depot client (5.2.6)
2. I press 'Synchronize'
3. I select server's file from tab 'Password Depot Server'(I have already logged in)
4. I press 'OK'
and I get the error:
"These 2 password files are not compatible. It is recommended to use the Import Wizard to merge files".

Finally I found the solution.
The problem was that we had created server's file from 'Files -> Add' option of Password Depot Server's Control Panel. So it was an empty file created with Password Depot Server 5.0.1. I suppose that server's version is causing the problems.

I deleted that file, and added to the server an existing password file which was created with Password Depot Client 5.2.6.
Then I was able to synchronize the files.
