Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello,
We are running Password Depot 4.1.8 and trying to connect to our Password Depot Server. Depending on the endusers physical location, at some points the connection needs to be done over microsoft Direct Access which is based on IP v6.
Trying to connect to the Password Depot Servers hostname, or IP v6 address does not work. The Password Depot client cannot setup the connection.
Starting for example Internet Explorer, contacting the same physical servers, web-server works fine.
Does Password Depot support IP v6?
Does Password Depot have any special requirements, when using IP v6?
Thank you!
Regards
Mikael Koniakowski

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello Mikael,
currently Password Depot Server supports only IP v4. It is currently unclear if IP v6 will be supported by Passsword Depot Server 6. We will announced it asap.

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Ipv6 is currently being rolled out over a large number of companies world wide.
For example, Microsofts Direct Access and Unified Access Gateway used for automatic access to your company where ever you connect your PC is IPv6 based. These products does only allow for IP v6 traffic inside the encrypted tunnel.
Our company is ditributed over a large number of geographical areas and countries and Direct Acces is the only solution that will be available for remote access.
For Password Depot to still be a software included in our IT-strategy, it must support IPv6.
I'm surprised and sad to hear that Password Depot does not support IPv6 and even more that you currently do not have a strategy / plan for when to support it.
Can you give me any more information than "Maybe in next version" to help me decide if I must change my companys password handling strategy?
Thank you.

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello Mikael,
I understand your concerns. Of course we are aware of the requirement to support IP v6 asap, I just have no confirmation when exactly we will be able to implement it.
Please allow me a few days and I will check out internally about the status and time frame.

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello mkoniako,
sorry for the delay. We will definitely implement support for IP v6 in Password Depot Server 6. However, version 6 is currently already in beta test and will be released later this month. The first release will not include support of IP v6. We will work on this issues right after v6 was released and will introduce it in a minor update.
We can not give you currently an accurate release date but expect do be ready not later than September 2011.

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello,
I am sorry to hear that IPv6 will not be included in the earlier releases of Password Depot, such as PD4, PD5.
But with the information you provided we are now able to start planning how we should proceed.
Thank you!

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Hello Mikael,
The reason for our delay is that we will need to completely replace the current protocol implementation and this will require major redesign. Therefore much more efforts are required than we originally estimated.
As soon as we have a better information we will post it here.

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
Dear Mikael,
The product manager has informed us that it will be supported in version 7 of Password Depot. We do not have a definite release date (most possibly in summer this year) and will announce it as soon as we know more.
Best regards

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
I'm able to connect to the Passwort Depot Server over an IPv6 address in Version 10. BUT
If i try to connect to the hostname of the server over Direct Access the connection is not working (Internally the name resolves to an IPv4 address over direct Access it resolves to an IPv6 address).
Strangely if I enter the IPv6 address (to which the hostname resolves) in the "connect to" dialog it is working.
Can anyone explain this strange behavior? Are you aware of this limitation? Is AceBit working on this issue?
Best Regards
Thomas

Re: IPv6 and Password Depot?
The old versions of the PD client used IPv6 only for IP addresses in v6 format, in all other cases IPv4 is used automatically. Since v11, you can set the protocol manually under Program Options -> Network -> Enterprise Server -> Internet Protocol Version.
